MCP Environmental have secured a contract with principal contractor Morgan Sindall to provide civil engineering services for the replacement of The University of Leeds - The Edge – Five a side football pitch.
The University of Leeds 37-hectare estate presented unique challenges working around the 33,000 students and 8,000 staff. Strict noise regulations required the use of noise curtains due to the close proximity of the laboratories and teaching facilities.
The works included dismantling the existing fence, gates and posts and excavation of existing foundations, replacing them with Dulok Rebond double wire panel system, supply and fit 2-metre-high polypropylene mesh.
The refurbishment included replacement of artificial turf to FIFA recommendations for 1 star - the amateur sector and 2 star pitches catering for the most stringent demands in top-class international sport.
Reinforced concrete foundations were constructed to receive the new Dulok Rebond double wire panel system.
The refurbishment is part of the campus masterplan investing £520 million in the estate over the next 5 years.
Project Manager – Paul Waite said: “We are really happy with the quality and finish delivered by MCP Environmental for the newly refurbished Five-a-side football pitch. The initial scheme had some alterations but MCP worked closely with myself and the client to ensure the project was delivered to agreed timescales and within budget .”
