MCP Environmental were appointed to provide asbestos management services for Durham train station on behalf of principal contractor Colt Construction.
A comprehensive asbestos refurbishment survey was conducted to the building to ensure asbestos materials were identified and the condition thoroughly assessed prior to refurbishment works commencing.
The survey identified Chrysotile (White Asbestos) in the cement cowl and cement fire surround. The survey made comprehensive recommendations including removal and management.
Durham train station serves 2.6 million passengers annually, the station is a major stop on the east coast mainline.
The refurbishment survey facilitated the development of a microbrewery retail unit as part of ongoing enhancements to the stations increasing passenger numbers.
