National Grid

MCP Environmental were appointed as minor civils contractor for National Grid’s “Ferrybridge A” Power Station to provide a range of civil engineering services.

National Grid

The 135-acre site dates to 1926 with “Ferrybridge A” ceased power production in 1976 and is now used as office and workshop space.

MCP provided a new concrete parking area for utility and office staff. The works encompassed; strip off, reprofile and area compacting, installing type B plastic bollards for the designated parking area.

MCP laid concrete within a timber shutter structure integrating a reinforced steel structure to ensure strength and longevity of the parking provision while managing access to the busy access road serving neighbouring facilities.

Geo-permeable textile membrane was laid to reduce vegetation growth around the complex. Gravel was laid around the area to ensure uniformed consistency.

All MCP civil operatives are trained to National Grid Basic Electrical Safety Competence (BESC) to ensure safe operating practice on these high-risk environments.

The site presented many challenges as the works required working alongside a busy access road. During the concrete pour the team had to manage working during a torrential rainfall ensuring the concrete met strict consistency criteria and would set within required timescales.
