MCP Environmental were appointed to install large diameter pre-cast concrete units to carry an underground steam pipe system at the University of Leeds.
The 37-hectare estate presented unique challenges working during the busy academic year with 33,000 students and 8,000 staff moving around the campus.
MCP conducted HSG 47 surveys (Avoiding danger from underground services) to ensure utilities were identified and located prior to excavation. Strict noise regulations were met through installing a noise curtain around the immediate vicinity due to nearby accommodation and teaching facilities.
Working in an educational setting required strict safeguarding procedures to be observed with all operatives undergoing a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and an extended toolbox talk.
